Rostropovich Orenburg biography
Mstislav Rostropovich’s connection with Orenburg is strong and amazes with amazing intersections of the lines of the fate of man and the city, biographies of the musician and the educational institution, which exercises professional musical education in the Orenburg Musical College - College - Institute. Orenburg - the birthplace of mother, grandfather and great -grandfather M.
Orenburg then Chkalov sheltered the Rostropovich family during the Great Patriotic War. In the year, the father of Mstislav Leopoldovich died here. In the spring of the year, an orphaned family left for Moscow. In the city of youth, M. Rostropovich returned after 50 years, in October GO. First of all, Mstislav Leopoldovich visited his father’s grave, because Orenburg was the last refuge for Leopold Vitoldovich.
The teaching staff of the then Chkalovsky Music School was directly involved in the funeral of the cellist. Decades later, the city administration and the leadership of the institute contributed to the search for the place of its burial in the cemetery of the memorial complex on Victory Avenue. Every year, teachers and students, representatives of the cultural public visit the grave of L.
Rostropovich on his death day on July 31. A meeting with teachers and students of the Orenburg Music School was included in the saturated program of the first visit to the maestro. Such meetings became traditional - Mstislav Leopoldovich came almost annually. In October GO, with the Omsk Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of E. Shestakov, he performed “Variations on the topic of Rococo” by Tchaikovsky.
Then the world -famous musician and conductor solemnly presented a certificate of conferring the title “Honorary Citizen of the city of Orenburg”. In the year, when Mstislav Rostropovich turned 70 years old - this anniversary was celebrated in many cities of the world - Mstislav Leopoldovich again visited the homeland of his ancestors. In the hall of the regional drama theater, where he watched Schiller's “Superiority and Love” by a boy, his celebration took place.
Tchaikovsky, gave a press conference. And on October 29, by the decision of the Regional Legislative Assembly, the Orenburg State Institute of Arts was named after Leopold and Mstislav Rostropovich. The next arrival of the maestro in our city in May G. Haydna with the Chamber Orchestra of the Regional Philharmonic, under the direction of March of the year, left a particularly vivid mark in the history of the Institute of Arts: M.'s master class was held on that day in the concert hall of the institute, the creative meeting of Mstislav Leopoldovich with a pedagogical and student team was held.
Many filled the “reports” of the maestro, as he himself said: “So I report briefly in front of you about what I am doing and about what I am going to do. Of course, I miss a lot, but I want to say that I work, work, work my wife does not accompany me anywhere. She says: “When I only see how you work, I am already tired” applause in the hall. There were always a lot of people who wanted to ask Mstislav Rostropovich, and he answered everyone with pleasure.
Conversations turned out to be extremely interesting. But we would like to have the most complete collection of your publications as possible. Is it possible? And yet. Why, in your opinion, Russia seems to be doomed to raise and educate talents that are scattered around the world, and we cannot listen to them often. Your opinion on this? I promise to send you to the institute all my records that I have a promise to Maestro, as always, fulfilled, and now the Institute of Arts has a unique complete collection of compact disks Mstislav Rostropovich plays, conducts, accompanies.
” I will answer the question related to our musical activity. Thinking about my life and creative path, I can say that I have never looked at my life, until I turned 70 years old. All the time I ran forward, gratefully perceiving what the Lord God gave me: acquaintance with great musicians, artists, writers. In conversations, discussions, in revelations with them - how could you not change?
These meetings made me a different person. Why did they take place? Because I was kicked out of the Soviet Union. I must tell you that I could never bring the grain of love that I brought in my art in my life. I do not regard my role high, but I still took a grain of love for our country. Being a Russian, I met with all these great people around the world. Not to mention the presidents of many countries known to politicians.
When, after 17 years of work, I finished my stay in the Washington National Symphony Orchestra, letters from four US presidents: John Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush and Bill Clinton was put on the stage at the final concert. They wrote such compliments that I can’t even tell you, it’s inconvenient for me! And if I stayed here? I give you the word that I would leave a trace in some kind of our people.
But in the general result of my life, I would not be able to acquire as many friends for our Russia abroad as they are now.If there was no Sergey Kusevitsky, Sergei Rachmaninov, Alexander Ziloti, Vladimir Gorovitsa, the violin King Yasha Heifets, the cellist Grigory Pyatigorsky, our music school would not occupy such an international class. This will happen when for the first time, after 30 years, we will see the first aliens to arrive at us.
I am sure of that. Yes, I am sure that there are other civilizations that should visit us. And when this happens, it will no longer have any importants, where France is, where Germany, where is which country. We will all be just earthlings. We will be all together on our planet. And it will be wonderful, I assure you! Because we will get to the point that we will not engage in idiocy - to fight with each other, to kill each other.
I hope it will be so, we will come to this! Then, I must say, the interpenetration of our cultures will be extremely important and significantly. Maybe now is the period when around the world there is no such adoration of our country, but I am sure that this is temporary. Because it was Russia that made a huge contribution to world science, literature, music - a contribution for which we cannot but love.
They will love us! They will thank us! And you, the young students sitting here, do it, damn it! I could talk about them for a long time. The war years are especially remembered. I remember winter, cold. There is no water in the house. There is no stove. And suddenly a call! I open the door - strangers brought an armful of firewood. Someone brought the stove.
And now, having 34 foreign orders, 48 honorary degrees of a doctor of universities, including the largest - Oxford, Cambridge, Sorbonne - I believe that I did not pay my debt to those people who then brought the stove and firewood. Thanks to them! Thanks to Orenburg! I don’t know how they find themselves there - in Paris, in London, Berlin - but I enjoy giving master classes to students of different specialties: ovens, pianists, violinist and, of course, cellists.
I always include master classes in my festivals, I do not forget to share knowledge with youth. On my next visit to Orenburg, I will definitely work out with you, my dear friends. At that meeting, the mayor of Orenburg, Yu. Mishcheyakov, expressed his gratitude to the great musician for his participation in the city’s affairs and handed M. Rostropovich the Medal “Honorary Citizen of Orenburg”.
This title Mstislav Leopoldovich Rostropovich received another year. And now, as he said, "the medal found his hero." As a sign of respect and appreciation, the rector of the Institute of Arts B. Havterin presented the maestro flowers and, according to Mstislav Leopoldovich, the most expensive gift-several copies of his book “The Musical Culture of the Orenburg of the XX Century”, the second chapter of which is dedicated to the Fedotov-Rostropovich dynasty, its role in the process of formation and development of musical culture of the city.
Thanking for the gift, Mstislav Rostropovich said: “I will give these books to my children and grandchildren. I want everyone to know and remember their Russian roots. ” In November, Mstislav Leopoldovich flew to Orenburg along with the film group director I. Belyaev, a television company RTR, who shot a film about him and the city of his youth. Rostropovich in the house on Ziminskaya Street.
M. Rostropovich’s visits programs to Orenburg have always been full of interesting events and communication - master classes, creative meetings, charitable concerts were held. During his last master class, on September 1, Mstislav Leopoldovich handed rector B. Havterin as a gift to the Institute of a violin of a modern Italian master Leonidas Rafaeliano, manufactured in a cream on July 25 according to the model of A.
