After the brilliant Soviet period, when our athletes were almost legislators of boxing fashion in the country, and accordingly in Europe, today's success, of course, is insignificant. I want to remind you that then our boxers at the championships of the country and the Spartakiads of the peoples of the USSR very closely pressed the Russian team. Our team had wonderful boxers and coaches, led by the honored coach of the USSR Eduard Aristakshen, a mentor of the Olympic champion Vladimir Engibaryan.

And how many champions of the Soviet Union did we have?! To get into the USSR national team, then it was necessary to win at first in the republican championship, then become the best in the All -Union Society of Dynamo or Spartak, in “Labor Reserves” or among the army, and in conclusion to defeat everyone at the championship of the country. That is, then we performed in many tournaments where representatives of various boxing schools competed: Russian and Armenian, Ukrainian and Central Asian.

And today we compete with each other, cook in our own juice. Today, it happens to us, they say: they say, we are organizing the fees, what else is needed. But you won’t achieve anything alone, boxers without competitions are like an artist without a scene. Of course, both the political and economic processes that took place in the republic in the early years of independence affected the general decline of our boxing.

Many leading athletes could not stand these difficulties and were forced to leave their native foci. Today they successfully box in professional ring. More than ten of our boxers today protect the honor of other states. Leaders left, but the replacement did not grow up. But, as you can see, a shift for the better has recently been outlined. The salary of coaches increased, some of them returned to their homeland.

Sports bases are improved and equipped with modern equipment, and sports halls are brought into the divine view. A great merit in this of our sports leadership, the government and especially the President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, who constantly holds a hand on the pulse of the country's sports life. We suffered heavy losses with coaching staff. He said more than once that when the athletes leave, it was sad, but when the coaches leave the country, this is a tragedy.

Without good specialists, you can’t bring up the champion, you can’t prepare reserves. The average age of our leading coaches is years, and when they retire, we will face an even greater problem. The problem with coaching staff should be solved at the government level. Each year, we are diplomatians of our physinive institute, most of whom are then called up for army service.

Their connection with sports structures is lost, and after demobilization they most often go to business. And earlier, at the end of the university, newly -made sports specialists in distribution were sent to rural areas where they trained children in sports skills, and coaches were preparing personnel to replenish our leading sections, the national team. The debut of Oganes Danielyan at the adult championship of Europe was successful.

Already in the first battle he was expected by a formidable rival-the vice-champion of the continent from Moldova, whom he surprisingly easily won. Then he defeated the Azerbaijani Jaykhun Abyev, whose uncle Agadzhan Abiev is my old friend president of the Boxing Federation of Azerbaijan, the rector of the Baku Institute of Physical Culture. During this duel, we were sitting nearby and worried each for our own.

After the announcement of the victory of Oganes, he congratulated me, shook his hand. It so happened that in the next battle, in a weight of 51 kg, our boxers met. Vachagan Avakyan, as expected, failed to resist one of the favorites in this weight category. The Azerbaijani won, and it was my turn to congratulate Abiev. Sport is sport, it is out of politics. We laid high hopes on Gabriel Tolmadjyan 54 kg.

Alas, already in the first battle, he suddenly lost with a difference of three blows to Vengra Zoltan to the Bedag. Moreover, three months before, Tolmadjyan defeated Hungarian with an overwhelming advantage.In the weight category of 57 kg, Edgar Manucharyan at the start of an obvious advantage defeated the silver medalist of the youth world championship Georgian Kobu Phakadze, but then lost to the Russian Albert Selimov, who won the rest of the fights and became the champion of Europe.

The procession to the pedestal, Grachik Javakhian began with the victory over the Cypriot, then over the Pole, and in the semifinals, our Belarusian compatriot Vazgen Safaryants lost to him. His victorious series in the final was interrupted by the Olympic champion of Russian Alexei Tishchenko. In Plovdiv, Andranik won the first battle and confidently led in the score in the next duel against Georgian Revaz Karelishvili, but the dissection of the eyebrow did not allow him to bring the duel to the logical end. In the weight of 81 kg, Armenia was represented by the bronze medalist of the World Cup in China Artak Malumyan. In the first match, he defeated the Slovak Robert Kramberger, and then lost to the winner of the championship to Russian Arthur Beterbiev.

In the team event, the first place with 9 gold medals went to the Russian team, with which I congratulate its leaders and boxers. The fifth place was taken by the Armenian national team. We have the right to expect medals in several weight categories. We have special hopes on the student of our college of two -time European champion among boys Azat Oganesyan 54 kg. He gathered around him a strong team from boxing experts, professionals, incorruptible people and waged the struggle with all the negative, which was previously in European boxing.

To me and Serb Danilo Ivanovich, he entrusted the refereeing of the championship. Khusainov’s first exam withstood the first “excellent” team. There was one disciplinary problem when the Turkish boxer, after the announcement of his defeat, arranged a brawl in the ring, supported by his curtains, his coach. They pounced with fists at the Italian referee and inflicted bodily harm to him.

The executed executive committee was convened, which decided to disqualify the Turks - a boxer for five years, and his coach is for life. In addition, the Plovdiv police fined them for hooligan actions worth 2.5 thousand euros. Our famous boxer, referee of the international category of Suren Ghazaryan in the past, was perfectly succeeded in all his battles.
