He was lucky enough to survive in this critical setting, and on July 17, he crossed the Don to the location of our troops.
At the end of the same July, the Nazi troops crossed the Don in the area of the village of Tsimlyanskaya and developed an attack to the North Caucasus, to Stalingrad from the south and Astrakhan. The Directorate of the Army was urgently transferred to Kalmykia. After a short test in the competent authorities of Mochalin, they considered it not their honor surrounded by the regimental school, they awarded the sergeant’s title and sent to a separate rifle brigade, which in early September became part of the Army of the Southeast Front.

Then the junior lieutenant Mochalin fell into the officer reserve of the Primorsky Army of the North Caucasus Front. In November, the Kerch Strait was crossed by Soviet troops and bridgeheads were conquered on the Kerch Peninsula.
