Due to poor health, the boy devoted a lot of time to calm classes. He really liked to draw garden flowers, which later became the decoration of many interiors. Since Charles was not capable of heavy work, his father gave him to the workshop of an ordinary, but successful architect.

On the advice of the architect Macintosh, he was educated at the Glasgow art school. Then he worked as a drawing in one of the companies in the city. At the school of elegant arts, Macintosh gets acquainted with Herbert McNire, an excellent watercolor, and the sisters Margaret and Francis McDonald. Together they formed a “four from Glasgow” - an art association, to which Scotland owes his own option for modern.

Charles Makintosh was engaged in the creation of not only architectural projects, but also painted paintings, created interior and design items, designed watches, lamps, stained glasses, fireplaces and tables. He was the first to use stencils in the decoration of interiors. One of the architectural masterpieces of the master was the art school in Glasgow. Macintosh has been engaged in the construction of an innovative building for ten years.

And he succeeded with success. This project glorified the architect. Young architects and designers did not have a shortage of orders. Charles managed to get acquainted with Miss Katherine Kreston, a business woman, the owner of the so -called “tea rooms”. In such a place, women could come unaccompanied by men. They talked, drank tea. Acquaintance with Katherine led to the creation of four such institutions.

In the same period, Macintosh designed a chair with a high back, which settled in one of the “tea rooms”. Macintosh also built private houses, made drawings for fabrics, designed furniture. The First World War did not stop him from creating, but made some adjustments into his life. The architect planned to move to Vienna, but I had to postpone the move. Unfortunately, in the year Charles Macintosh began to blind.

It became difficult for him to work, and he and his wife moved to London. But London is an expensive city and after the First World War, they decided to move to the south of France. Macintosh managed to create the basis for a completely new type of architectural thinking, which will set the tone for the entire XX century. The furniture created by him has now become rare.
